If you have seen my Instagram you would have noticed that I absolutely adore oats!!! I have them most mornings, warm or cold. They always set me up for the day and leave me happy and content.
So why do I love oats so much well, oats are packed with nutrients and are a great source of carbs and fibre. The fibre content means that oats are also very filling, giving you a kick start to the day plus, leaving you feeling fuelled and satisfied. They have the ability to be extremely diverse. I change them up by switching between porridge, baked oats, overnight oats, pancakes …the list goes on. Not to mention all the different flavours and toppings you can add! Also a little tip: add in the Chai Lords Instant Chai Latte to some stewed or fresh fruit to add in some delicious flavours. So, in light of my oat obsession I am sharing my top 4 favourite breakfast recipes using oats. Enjoy!
- Overnight Oats
Overnight oats are perfect for the warmer days. Prep it the night before, pop it in the fridge to soak and then add your toppings it in the morning. Some of my favourite toppings include fresh fruit, nuts or nut butter, cinnamon, yoghurt, seeds etc. They are so quick and easy! Here is my recipe:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 2/3 cup milk of choice
- 1.5 tbsp chia seeds
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tbsp sweetener of choice
Plus any addition extras you want to add e.g. mashed banana, turmeric, protein powder, berries…anything goes!
- Porridge
If you know me you know I have porridge nearly every day in the winter months. There is something about having a big warm bowl of oats, topped with all my favourites, that just makes me excited to get up in the morning. My go to porridge toppings are yoghurt or protein powder, fresh berries and peanut butter (PB is my obsession!). I also sometimes include grated zucchini in my porridge as it makes the oats so thick and creamy, plus the extra nutrients (and I promise you can’t taste the zucchini!). My porridge recipe:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 2/3 cup water or milk
- touch of cinnamon
- touch of maca powder
- optional: ½ grated zucchini
- optional: protein powder
- Baked Oats
When you want cake for breakfast…. you have baked oats. These oats, no joke, taste like a cake in a bowl. They are golden and crispy on top with gooey, warm oatmeal on the inside. Absolutely insane! I use my same base recipe and then add in whatever flavour combos I feel like. Bake at 180-200 degrees Celsius until golden.
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- ½ banana - mashed
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
optional: protein powder
Here are my favourite flavour combos, just add your extras in with the batter and bake!
Choc Chip + Raspberries
Carrot Cake: just add grated carrot, walnuts, a touch of nutmeg and mixed spice
Double Choc: cacao powder + choc chips (optional: chocolate protein powder)
PB & J: peanut butter + raspberries
- Banana Pancakes
My banana pancakes are my pride and joy. It is the easiest, simplest recipe but my gosh they are so delicious. Make your pancakes, stack them and then top them with all the good stuff. Here is my trusty pancake recipe.
Blend or mix together and then cook:
- ¼ cup oats
- 1 banana
- 2 eggs
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp cinnamon
As you can see oats are my go-to! You can find all these recipes plus a lot more on my Instagram page. I hope you all love oats as much as I do!
